Mermaid Fest 2010 CANCELLED!!

Hello My fishy friend, Mermaidfest has to cancel! My Fisherman and ofcourse the weatherman are saying storms Sun. In 1998 (my 1st festival) The rain poured down!!! Night before and the fest A/M to the point people were coming and leaving fast....When miraculusly a truck rolled in with fisherman to the rescue errected giant tarps with pvc pipes and duct tape to create a giant umbrella that covered the whole festival. People were so amazed that they stayed to watch this and did not leave!!! The sun came out and dried us all up. Festival saved! Did not cover
1998 exspenses and have been trying to re-coop the exspense since. But the fest did go on!!! All fests since lucked out. Having to do my Mermaidfest this late in Oct. so to catch my fisherman in between seasons to help with preparing /BBQ'g fresh local seafood and do net and crabpot weaving for my fest in Oct. is always risky. This fest Oct 24th will not be so lucky.
On a positive note ...I already canceled this fest once due to $950.00 and no compromise for rate reduction for Monte Rio Amphitheater. When Peter Andrews on Park and Rec board dug into his own pocket and offset the $950.00 by donating $600.00 directly to MRPR toward Mermaidfest and contract was signed ...Mermaidfest re-up'd. So ....I could call out to my fisherman and try to errect umbrella ...TOO MUCH to ask of them. LUCKILY the fundraiser at The Rainbow Cattle Company in Guerneville Oct 12th raised $315.00 and still waiting on 10% of drinks figure to go to Community Clean Water Institute. Plus a client of mine Hank Massie managed to donate to CCWI thru a charitable Trust $350.00 to CCWI. So in short close to the $1000.00 we raised at Mermaidfest 2009 weve already raised for CCWI this year without doing Mermaidfest.
The Tailspin will be to tell people the 1200 hours that my core group and i have invested in this years planning of Mermaidfest will not have been wasted if we can concentrate on celebrating successful return of COHO salmon to the Russian River thru (Qouted from my fisherman friends) farming and river restoration efforts!!!! All your listeners can be encouraged to learn how to be river restorers and river monitors thru CCWI and Russian River Keepers volenteering and check into their own backyard river restoring groups.
